Preparations For The Return Of The Live Experience...

So after a hiatus of a few years(!) I want to go out and play live again. Found some other musicians who are prepared to join me on stage. We are now building the set list for future live gigs. The concerts will be based on an unplugged set up but we have already strayed from The True Path... ;) The instruments that we will use now consist of drums, percussion, acoustic bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar and piano. And maybe, JuuuUUusssTT maybe I can get my girlfriend to join in on transverse flute for 'Duncan' otherwise I'll have to bring the smallest synthesizer I have(that would be a very rare Roland JV30) and play it with my right big toe. My girlie loves Paul Simon though, so perhaps we stand a chance of convincing her to play along.

We hope to start somewhere in September or October 2011.

The set list so far :

- Bruce Cockburn - If I had a rocket launcher

- Cat Power - Rambling (Wo-)Man

- Chris Cornell - Billie Jean

- Crowded House - Weather With You

- Jim Croce - You Don't Mess Around With Jim

- Jose Feliciano - Light My Fire

- Melissa Etheridge - Bring Me Some Water

- Paul Carrack - Dedicated

- Paul Simon - Duncan

- Razorlight - America

- Rory Block - Lovin' Whiskey

- Supertramp - Give A Little Bit / The Logical Song

- The BeeGees - Staying Alive

- The Church - Under The Milky Way

- Tracy Chapman - Mountains O' Thing

- Timmie Thomas/Sade - Why Can't We Live Together

Needless to say, say it anyway...

It's been a bit quiet around here recently. Don't have any real 'inspiration' so no urge to write new stuff for my blog.

I have also activated my Facebook-page. I can remember joining Facebook years and years ago but I never did much with it. I had my weblog and also was quite suspicious about privacy issues on Facebook. That must surely have been clairvoyance... ;)

Let me see; after the last non-lyrics entry our town was shook up by that young idiot shooting down people at the local mall. I really don't have anything to add to that which has already been said so I won't even try.

Also we were having trouble with our one remaining cat, who turned out to be pregnant but from a still born kitten. She had to be operated on and I must say that the vet did an excellent job as always.
We are now looking for a kitten to keep Katie company. Not only did she lose her offspring but she(we) also lost her older brother about 7 weeks ago, so she is feeling somewhat alone.

As for the rest: I 'rebuilt' my acoustic guitar; new strings, a good clean-up and check-up, that sort of stuff. The neck of my guitar had been slightly twisted by natural causes(it is after all over 30 years old) so it was hard to play in tune across the whole neck. High notes would tend to be off key a bit. It was the reason I did not play for some time(years). So I was really delighted to find that the neck has 'twisted back'. It may be the influence of the weather and the storage cabinet, I don't know. What I do know is that I can now play nicely in tune up to at least the 9th fret. Which is more than enough for me as I don't really do acoustic solo's.

I also bought a digital guitar tuner which brings me to the next subject :

I got myself my first Smart Phone. I used to work with an old Palm Treo that a friend gave me. About a week ago I decided to, for the first time in many many years, treat myself to something new. I am now the owner of an HTC Incredible S with 8GB storage(though that will be 16GB later this month). An excellent phone, I can recommend it. Especially the sound is crisp and clear, which is what you want when you're hard of hearing.

In fact; the audio applications are quite good and I found what I consider to be the best one : 'PlayerPro'.

(The content displayed in this picture bears no relation to my own collection)

The player itself is quite good but it has one brilliant extension; a DSP-pack that comes with it for free. It includes a 12-band equalizer as well as a pre-amp and a bass-booster. Very good value for money as the whole application costs about 2 euro's...

What does this phone have to do with buying a guitar tuner?  Well of course I went to the Android Market to see what they have on offer, and I found a really excellent guitar tuning application for free.

It is better in quiet circumstances than in a smokey and noisy bar so I will keep the separate hardware tuner for live purposes. Still; it works beautifully and is incredibly sensitive.

And as for the rest; we are just surviving here.

Sometimes one should not aspire to greater things than just be.

Lyrics of the week; It Bites - Oh My God

Oh My God - It Bites

Oh my God, the genius of it all
The way the words spit from my mouth
I'm self-assured and meaninglessly bored
and all these things straight through your heart

So when you talk to me there's nothing left to say
And only one thing can remain, so please refrain 'cause

I'm so wrapped up in writing words for you
(I got your words I got your words, I got your words, I got)
I'm so strung out that nothing else will do
(I got your words I got your words, I got your words, I got)

Oh my god, how boring I've become
I'll say this again and again
I'm self-obsesses and tedious at best
I'd wish this on no one but you

And when I talk to you I find it hard to say
You're wasting all these words again, I feel ashamed now

I'm so wrapped up in writing words for you
(I got your words I got your words, I got your words, I got)
I'm so strung out that nothing else will do
(I got your words I got your words, I got your words, I got)

Hoping these letters will carry you through in the old dramatic way
And I still recall as I bury the wall
It's a gentle reminder there's always the time to go sailing
Hey, you've got yourself to blame
And these promises spoken, like hearts will be broken
I' wrapped around your finger, your words still mean something to me...

I'm so wrapped up in writing words for you
(I got your words I got your words, I got your words, I got)
I'm so strung out that nothing else will do
(I got your words I got your words, I got your words, I got)

Sometimes I Feel So Uninspired

A great song from a great band.

Traffic - Sometimes I Feel So Uninspired.

Sometimes I feel so uninspired
Sometimes I feel like giving up
Sometimes I feel so very tired
Sometimes I feel like I've had enough

Sometimes you feel like you've been hired
Sometimes you feel like you've been bought
Sometimes you feel like your room's been wired
Sometimes you feel like you've been caught

But don't let it get you down
There is no reason for not failing
You've got to smile and turn the other cheek
So today you might get up
But by tomorrow you'll be sailing
And you won't even hear these words I speak

Some people want to be so desired
Some people can't stand the light of day
Somebody's laughing while someone is crying
But for to want in the close of the day

But sometimes I feel like my head is spinning
I'm gonna cave with all I see
I don't know who's losing and I don't care who's winning
Hardship and trouble following me

And then one from
one of the best lyricists in the history of English Rock Music(as proven by his awards track-record as well as the send off he received after he passed away).

Not every line may be the best in the world, but there is a lot of strength in many lines.

"We live in hope waiting for the day, when all our dreams can begin.
But the time it takes for the rain to fall, is the time it takes to give in.
They said that you'll expire. You're wasting your time to try.
But inside a heart of fire is a force you can't deny"

Indeed. Rest in peace Mr. Capaldi.

Jim Capaldi - Something So Strong

We started off heading for the top and set our sights on the sun.
Now there's no more tears as we're standing here, and the morning light has begun.
They said that you'll expire. You're wasting your time to try.
But inside a heart of fire is a force you can't deny.

Something so strong driving me on, never tire.
Something so strong, born of the sun.
Like a fire burns inside me so strong

We live in hope waiting for the day, when all our dreams can begin.
But the time it takes for the rain to fall, is the time it takes to give in.
They said that you'll expire. You're wasting your time to try.
But inside a heart of fire, is a force you can't deny.

Something so strong driving me on, never tire.
Something so strong, born of the sun.
Like a fire, sea of fire, burns inside me so strong.

Love is what brought us here.
And no one can deny.

Something so strong driving me on, never tire.
Something so strong burning so long, like a fire.
Something so strong born of the sun, taking me higher.
Something so strong been coming so long, burning desire.

Something so strong driving me on, never tire.
Something so strong burning so long, like a fire.

Lyrics on a Thursday morning...

Just because everybody else seems to hate the guy and I don't.

Deep inside the border
Children are crying
Fighting for food
Holding their heads
Breaking their bread with a stone

All along the roadside
people are standing
watching the sun
shielding their eyes
Brushing the flies from their face

Tell me, what can you say
Tell me, who do you blame
Like a mirror you see yourself
These people each have a name

All around the township
Young men are dying
(of) hunger and thirst
The well has run dry
The tears from her eye feeds her son

Tell me, what can you say
Tell me, who do you blame
Like a mirror you see yourself
These people each have a name

You can say you're pulling back
We see the pictures everywhere
But what we don't see is what's
Going on behind the closed doors
And you don't seem to care

Do you expect me to believe you
How can you really think
You can take your horse down to the water
Hold a gun at his head
And make him drink

No matter what you say, it never gets any better
No matter what you do, we never see any change

People living without rights
Without their dignity
How loud does one man have to shout
To earn his right to be free

You can keep your toy soldiers
To segregate the black and white
But when the dust settles
And the blood stops running
How do you sleep at night?

No matter what you say, it never gets any better
No matter what you do, we never see any change
What makes you so high and mighty What makes you so qualified You can sit there and say How many have their freedom But how many more have died You decide to sit in judgement Trying to play God yourself Someday soon the buck is gonna stop Stop with you and noone else
No matter what you say, it never gets any better
No matter what you do, we never see any change

What are you playing now?

Billy Bragg - Leroy Stubb's Tears

With the money from her accident
She bought herself a mobile home
So at least she could get some enjoyment
Out of being alone
No one could say that she was left up on the shelf
It's you and me against the World kid she mumbled to herself

When the world falls apart some things stay in place
Levi Stubbs' tears run down his face

She ran away from home with her mother's best coat
She was married before she was even entitled to vote
And her husband was one of those blokes
The sort that only laughs at his own jokes
The sort that war takes away
And when there wasn't a war he left her anyway

Norman Whitfield and Barratt Strong
Are here to make right everything that's wrong
Holland and Holland and Lamont Dozier too
Are here to make it all okay with you

One dark night he came home from the sea
And put a hole in her body where no hole should be
It hurt her more to see him walking out the door
And though they stitched her back together they left her heart in pieces on the
floor

When the world falls apart some things stay in place
She takes off the Four Tops tape and puts it back in its case
When the world falls apart some things stay in place
Levi Stubbs' tears...

Cat Power - Rambling Woman

Well I love you baby
But you got to understand
When the Lord made me
He made a ramblin' woman
He made me, he made me

Some folks
Some folks might say that I’m no good
That I wouldn’t settle down but if I only could
I love to see the towns go crawlin' by
There's something I’ve got to do
Before I die

I love you baby
But you got to understand
When the Lord made me
He made a ramblin' woman
He made me, He made me

Some people say
That I do just fine
Cause I hear sweet song
Moving down the line
And when that old southern train comes calling me
There's something over the hill
I just got to see

Well I love you
I love you baby
But you've got to understand
When the Lord made me
He made me
He made a ramblin' woman
He made me, He made me

Now when I'm gone
When I'm gone and at my grave you stand
Just say God called home your ramblin' woman

I love you
I love you baby
But you've got to understand
He made me, a ramblin' woman
He made me

Kenny Rankin - Haven't We Met?

I've ordered some rain for tomorrow
The sky will be sunny but wet
And out of nowhere you're suddenly there
And i say yeah pardon me haven't we met?

I've ordered some sunshine with showers
And i've got my scenery set
Right there with a thump our umbrellas gonna bump
And i say yeah yeah pardon me haven't we met?

Accidents can happen
And into one i'm gonna slide
There's a good chance to get my hands
On a little romance when two hearts collide

And i know that's just how it happened
When romeo met juliet
Somewhere i've read that old romeo said
pardon me haven't we met?

And i know that's just how it happened
When romeo met juliet
Somewhere i've read that old romeo said
pardon me oh he said pardon me
He said pardon me haven't we met?

Kenny Rankin - In The Name Of Love

What Burns And Glows Without Flame
What Is A Rose Without Any Rain
What Brings A Smile That Only Lasts A Little While
And Makes Me Cry Without Shame

Well Now How Can You Please Me
Torture And Tease Me
Do It In The Name Of Love

Don't You Know How To Be Nice
You Leave Me Without Thinkin' Twice
You're Warm Like An Oven
Only When You Want My Lovin'
Then You Go From Fire To Ice

Well Now How Can You Please Me
Torture And Tease Me
Do It In The Name Of Love

Am I Comin'
Am I Goin'
I Got No Way Of Knowin' Your Mine
You Make Me Rise And You Make Me Fall
You Make Me Stumble, Stumble, Stumble, Stumble And Fall
Baby Get With It
Come On Admit It
Whisper To Me If You Don't Really Love Me Anymore

How Can You Please Me
Torture And Tease Me
Do It In The Name Of Love

You Make Me Rise And You Make Me Fall
You Make Me Stumble, Stumble, Stumble, Stumble And Crawl
Baby Get With It
Come On Admit It
Whisper To Me If You Don't Really Love Me Anymore

How Can You Please Me
Torture And Tease Me
Do It In The Name Of Love
Do It In The Name Of Love
Do It In The Name Of Love
Do It In The Name Of Love
Do It In The Name Of Love
Do It In The Name Of Love

The late great Tommy Bolin - Gypsy Soul

We talked for hours of the travels
And all the beauty you had seen.
The south of France where the spring is beginning,
Sunset on the Thames from the village green.
We rolled on and on through the pages,
Of the books you'd taken from the shelf.
Unfamiliar faces and forgotten places,
Landscapes green and rich in wealth.

You've got a gypsy soul, and you love to wander.
Coast to coast to the Canadian border.
In the summer sun, yeah, yeah.

From my window you saw the ocean,
And all the changes that has been.
The south of France where the spring is beginning,
Sunset on the Thames from the village green.

Martha Wainwright - Bloody Motherfucking Asshole

Poetry is no place for a heart that's a whore
And I'm young & I'm strong
But I feel old & tired
Overfired

And I've been poked & stoked
It's all smoke, there's no more fire
Only desire
For you, whoever you are
For you, whoever you are

You say my time here has been some sort of joke
That I've been messing around
Some sort of incubating period
For when I really come around
I'm cracking up
And you have no idea

No idea how it feels to be on your own
In your own home
with the fucking phone
And the mother of gloom
In your bedroom
Standing over your head
With her hand in your head
With her hand in your head

I will not pretend
I will not put on a smile
I will not say I'm all right for you
When all I wanted was to be good
To do everything in truth
To do everything in truth

Oh I wish I wish I wish I was born a man
So I could learn how to stand up for myself
Like those guys with guitars
I've been watching in bars
Who've been stamping their feet to a different beat
To a different beat
To a different beat

I will not pretend
I will not put on a smile
I will not say I'm all right for you
When all I wanted was to be good
To do everything in truth
To do everything in truth

You bloody mother fucking asshole
Oh you bloody mother fucking asshole
Oh you bloody mother fucking asshole
Oh you bloody mother fucking asshole
Oh you bloody mother fucking asshole
Oh you bloody...

I will not pretend
I will not put on a smile
I will not say I'm all right for you
For you, whoever you are
For you, whoever you are
For you, whoever you are

Randy Newman - It's Money That I Love

I don't love the mountains
And I don't love the sea
And I don't love Jesus
He never done a thing for me
I ain't pretty like my sister
Or smart like my dad
Or good like my mama

It's Money That I Love
It's Money That I Love

They say that's money
Can't buy love in this world
But it'll get you a half-pound of cocaine
And a sixteen-year old girl
And a great big long limousine
On a hot September night
Now that may not be love
But it is all right

One, two
It's Money That I Love
Wanna kiss you Three, four
It's Money That I Love
Used to worry about the poor

But I don't worry anymore
Used to worry about the black man
Now I don't worry about the black man
Used to worry about the starving children of India
You know what I say about the starving children of India ?
I say, "Oh mama"

It's Money That I Love
It's Money That I Love
It's Money That I Love

Music of the sun

The sun has been the inspiration for hundreds of songs, but now scientists have discovered that the star at the centre of our solar system produces its own music.

Taxman

TaxMan

Let me tell you
How it will be.
There's one for you,
Nineteen for me,

'Cause I'm the taxman.
Yeah, I'm the taxman.
Should five percent
Appear too small,
Be thankful I don't
Take it all.

'Cause I'm the taxman.
Yeah, I'm the taxman.

If you drive a car,
I'll tax the street.
If you drive to the city,
I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold,
I'll tax the heat.
If you take a walk,
I'll tax your feet.

Taxman!

'Cause I'm the taxman
Yeah, I'm the taxman.
Don't ask me what I want it for,
If you don't want to pay some more.

'Cause I'm the taxman.
Yeah, I'm the taxman.

And my advice to
Those who die.
(Taxman!)
Declare the pennies
On your eyes.
(Taxman!)

'Cause I'm the taxman.
Yeah, I'm the taxman,
And you're working for no one but me.
Taxman!)

I almost made a dreadful mistake : Apres Ski Must Die!!

Ok, so I see this as a dreadful mistake where others will not understand what I get so upset for. But still...

I almost made a dreadful mistake and it has taught me to do better research before accepting a DJ-gig.

Some time ago somebody asked me to join in for an evening as a DJ on what they incorrectly call 'Apres Ski'. It is named aptly incorrect because I live in The Netherlands and there really are no Dutch Mountains, let alone Dutch Mountains with Lots of Snow... (Full Disclosure : I've never ever even been on a ski-ing holiday). ;)

Now I know that there are hardly any standards when it comes to that 'style' and after all; how can you name a serious style after a boozerama-Fest?

So although I did have some ideas about what to play on the night(go real bad and play Wham, Abba, yes; I would even put aside most of my musical principles and play Boney M!),  I investigated 'Apres Ski' a bit more. I Also checked the torrent-sites to see what kind of Apres Ski CD's were being released.

My Word And I Don't Fucking Believe It! I am definitely most certainly so NOT going to DJ on saturday!

Holy Fuck what an incredibly bad taste in music must you have to DJ on such a night!!!

I just found a whole load of Apres Ski CD's ready for download and they made a chill run down my spine. I was transported back to the days when my parents used to like that stuff and the rest would curse it whole heartedly.

Believe it or not : Boney M is not even at the same level as this drivel; Boney M are an artistic landmark compared to this Apres Ski shit.

No way Jose: I have my principles. I don't even want to be there as a guest so I absolutely Do Not Want To Hear Any Of This Bleh!

Now I know why some people call me a musical elitist, or even a musical snob. If these people believe that Apres Ski is music than I AM ONE BIG FUCKING ELITIST SNOB!!! And very, very! proud of it.

I know that there are people who absolutely adore this shit. Some are even friends. They go so far as to travel to the big city to hear it! I am allergic to it. Possible also because I have seen studio-guys put this kind of crap together in the studio in my days.

And now for another cup of coffee to get rid of the bad taste in my mouth. To think that I actually almost was an Apres Ski DJ. Brrrrrrrr... This was a very close shave.

P.S. As an afterthought I just realized that if I wanted to I could blow the doors of the bloody cafe with my Apres Ski DJ-set. The only thing I would have to do is recall my parents dutch language record collection. Jan Boezeroen, Rob de Nijs, Gert en Hermien, Zangeres zonder Naam(Mexico-hoooo!), De Kermisklanten, etcetera, supplemented by a bit of German: Freddy Quinn, Marianne Rosenberg, Freddy Breck, Heino(!!!).

I am SO glad that those days are over!

Another day, another forum.

First : Heads up for the Dutch Progressive Rock Page !

The 'Now Playing' thread is very informative. Only if you like that kind of stuff of course, which I do. So much so that I don't want to discuss my tastes anymore on some other laymen's forum where people still think Progressive Rock means Yes or Marillion. How On Earth people think they can judge ProgRock without even knowing Gentle Giant or Soft Machine is a mystery to me anyway.

As an extra, here are some of the more relevant wiki-entries to ProgRock, ProgMetal, etcetera :

The Annotated Lamb

It must have been a very rainy day... But still, quite a nice read if you're into ProgRock and especially into Genesis.

"Hackett's guitar weavings became an integral part of the moody atmosphere, as Banks wisely kept his keyboard playing melodic and lyrical instead of succumbing to the obvious desire to create a Third World War like so many of his peers and contemporaries."

Fresh crop for sunday

Managed to get hold of the complete Emerson Lake and Palmer. 'Still you turn me on' and all that.

Also got my hands on some Pendragon, Pineapple Thief and some more bands like that. Quite interesting, and always good to have when you DJ a ProgRock set.

A New Life For Quality Music - And It Feels Like Coming Home

What started it all.

Quite recently I came across an article on the web that made me look at Prog Rock with an altogether different view. When I was a teenager back in the deep down dark and somewhat damp 70ies I grew up being an avid and fanatical fan of Sympho and Prog Rock. Bands like Gentle Giant, Yes, ELP, Camel, and of course Genesis, I listened to them for hours and hours, for days and days.

Of course, just like most people, I thought that this musical branch had just about died out in the early eighties.  There was Marillion, but like many musicians who had enjoyed the bands I mentioned, I always thought that this band was basically Genesis in C minor. So... I set my sights to new musical styles and if/when I played some Prog Rock it would be the 70ies bands that I loved so well.

Getting my own back.

Some years ago though, I came across Spock's Beard. A friend of mine, who happens to be the one of the biggest ProgRock fan I have ever known(Hi there Dick!) gave me a cd of these guys, and although it was well written and performed it harkened back to the old days just a bit too much to really get me enthousiastic.

So imagine my surprise when about one week ago I decided to check out what had been happening in this particular musical scene in the last 15 to 20 years. It turns out that since around the year 2.000 there has been a surge in Prog Rock that I had not been aware of. Bands like IQ(a bit older than that really), Transatlantic, Mystery Jets, The Mars Volta, etcetera, have given the scene an enormous boost. For the first time I can listen to new material that indeed is influenced by the first generation of Sympho and Prog Rock, but at the same time does not wallow in the old chord progressions and technicalities. These bands can all really play, but they have taken the style beyond what it was in its heydays. There are even a lot of power chords in that music(Alfred!)

First 'fun fact' : Although I think Radiohead are quite ok(computer...), I never understood what all the big fuss was about. Turns out that a lot of these newer bands pay homage to Radiohead because it was the first new succesful band to forget about the standard 'intro/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/solo/fade out' format. So in effect they rediscovered wat had been lost in the 80ies and the 90ies.

At the moment I am especially listening to  band like Glass Hammer, Transatlantic and Mystery Jets. After which I shall have to check out The Mars Volta in more detail.

On Retournez Toujours A Ses Premier Amour

It feels like coming home. NOT because it is the same ol' same ol' but on the contrary; these folks really went on to create the next generation of Prog Rock/Sympho. Fun fact : I have actually seen and heard quite a lot of the lesser Sympho Gods in Het Kasteel in the time that we had Dick as our programmer. Jadis, Act, Salmon, John Wetton, Colin Bass, Grey Lady Down, For Absent Friends, etcetera. In retrospect that was a bloody good job by our programmer/Prog-head.

And to top it off, Het Kasteel will very likely have its own ProgRock Cafe in the very near future. Another fun fact; I did some slightly demographic research for a cafe-evening on sunday and not very much to my surprise all the people under 24 replied that they would not be there on a sunday 'because they would still be wasted from the night before'. So... basically we have a night every week on which we can do whatever we want, and we do not have to cater to what 'the hip scene' wants to hear.  A perfect opportunity to see if we can get the more 'mature'(read 'older') cafe-visitor to drop by.

Good times are here again! And people who tell me that this music is So Last Century can go and kiss my lovely royal arse. When a band like The Mars Volta sells over 600.000 records and plays for a sold out Paradiso, what do they know?
We'll make a deal: they will get 9 out of 10 nights and the 10th is for 'us'.

And who knows : perhaps even Dick will drop by again...

Can't have a flamewar with music, maybe *about* it....

Blunt - Same Mistake(appropriate)

Joni Mitchell - Blue

"Blue, songs are like tattoos
You know I've been to sea before
Crown and anchor me
Or let me sail away
Hey Blue, THERE is a song for you
Ink on a pin
Underneath the skin
An empty space to fill in
Well there're so many sinking now
You've got to keep thinking
You can make it thru these waves
Acid, booze, and ass
Needles, guns, and grass
Lots of laughs, lots of laughs
Everybody's saying that hell's the hippest way to go
Well I don't think so
But I'm gonna take a look around it though
Blue, I love you

Blue, here is a shell for you
Inside you'll HEAR a sigh
A foggy lullaby
There is your song from me"

Judy Collins - Both Sides Now

"Bows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere, I've looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun they rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done, but clouds got in my way

I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's cloud's illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and ferris wheels the dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real, I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show, you leave 'em laughin when you go
And if you care don't let them know, don't give yourself away

I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud, to say, "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds, I've looked at life that way
But now old friends are acting strange they shake their heads, they say
I've changed
But something's lost but something's gained in living every day

I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all"

Kate Bush - Mother Stands For Comfort

"She knows that I've been doing something wrong,
But she won't say anything.
She thinks that I was with my friends yesterday,
But she won't mind me lying,
Because

Mother stands for comfort.
Mother will hide the murderer.

It breaks the cage, and fear escapes and takes possession,
Just like a crowd rioting inside.
(Make me do this, make me do that, make me do this, make me do that...)
Am I the cat that takes the bird?
To her the hunted, not the hunter.

Mother stands for comfort.
Mother will hide the murderer.
Mother hides the madman.
Mother will stay mum.

Mother stands for comfort.
Mother will hide the murderer.
Mother hides the madman.
Mother will stay mum."

Tori Amos - Leather

"Look I'm standing naked before you
Don't you want more then my sex
I can scream as loud as your last one
But I can't claim innocence

Oh God
Could it be the weather
Oh God
Why am I here
If love Isn't forever
And it's not the weather
Hand me my leather

I could just pretend that you love me
The night would lose all sense of fear
But why do I need you to love me
When you can't Hold what I hold dear

Oh God
Could it be the weather
Oh God
Why am I here
If love Isn't forever
And it's not the weather
Hand me my leather

I almost ran over an angel
He had a nice big fat cigar
"In a sense" he said "You're alone here
So if you jump you best jump far"

Oh God
Could it be the weather
Oh God
Why am I here
If love Isn't forever
And it's not the weather
Hand me my leathe"

King Crimson - Thela Hun Ginjeet

"Well
first of all

I couldn't even see his face.
I couldn't see his face.
He was holding a gun in his hand.
Umm... I was thinking...
This is a dangerous place..
This is a dangerous place..

I said
I'm nervous as hell from this stuff.I thought those guys were going to kill me for sure. They ganged up on me like that.I couldn't believe it.Look, I'm still shakin'.Weird.There out in the streets like that. It's a dangerous place. It's a dangerous place.

So
suddenly
these two guys appear in front of me.
They stopped.
Real aggressive.
Start at me
you know.
What's that?
What's that on that tape?
What do you got there?"
I said
huh?
They said
What are you talking into that for?
I said
It's just a tape, you know
Well play it for me
I said "oh
no"
I put it off as long as I could.
And finally they turned it on
you know
They grabbed it from me.
Took it away from me.
Turned it on.
And it said
He held a gun in his hand. This is a dangerous place.
They said
What dangerous place?
What gun?
You're a policeman!
And the deeper I talked
the worse I got into it.
I talked
I told him... I said

Look man, I'm not talkin'....
It went on forever.
Anyway
I finally unbuttoned my shirt
and said

look, look... I'm in this band, you know, I'm in this band you know, and we're makin' a recording, you know. It's about New York City, it's about crime in the streets...
The explanation was going nowhere
but

Finally
they just kinda let me go
I don't know why.
So I walk around the corner

and I'm like shakin' like a leaf

and I thought
This is a dangerous place

Who should appear
but two policeman."

Gentle Giant - In A Glass House(appropriate)

"Looking through the window, can you tell me what you see?
You're sure you're really seeing what is meant to be
A glass, a mirror to reflect what I conspire
A vision, image I desire.

Standing on the ice believing all I'm searching for
Close your cloudy eyes and chase all that you did before
Standing on the ice believing all I'm searching for
Close your cloudy eyes and chase all that you did before

Living in a glass house shielding all that's meant for me
Can you clear the shade and can you tell me what you see?

Shadow fills the light
Until the glass house becomes the night
The dark is gleaming or am I dreaming?

Running everywhere
Seeing clearly when I dare
Is it today or is it your way?

And the moon must fall
Inspiration waits for your call
For you to get a silhouette

Narrow the field aim in any direction
Do what I feel just to see my reflection

Any turn I know
Disappearing everywhere I go
I look to you for what you do

And only then I see
That the glass house is just for me
And any time is never mine

Narrow the field aim in any direction
Do what I feel just to see my reflection

Shadow fills the light
Until the glass house becomes night
The dark is gleaming or am I dreaming?

Running everywhere
Seeing clearly when I dare
Is it today or is it your way?

And the moon must fall
Inspiration waits for your call
For you to get a silhouette"

Heart - Crazy On You

"If we still have time, we might still get by
Every time I think about it, I wanna cry
With bombs and the devil, and the kids keep comin'
No way to breathe easy, no time to be young

But I tell myself that I was doin' all right
There's nothin' left to do at night
But to go crazy on you
Crazy on you
Let me go crazy, crazy on you, oh

My love is the evenin' breeze touchin' your skin
The gentle, sweet singin' of leaves in the wind
The whisper that calls after you in the night
And kisses your ear in the early moonlight
And you don't need to wonder, you're doing fine
My love, the pleasure's mine

Let me go crazy on ya
Crazy on you
Let me go crazy, crazy on you, ohhh

Wild man's world is cryin' in pain
What you gonna do when everybody's insane
So afraid of one who's so afraid of you
What you gonna do...ohhh...

Ooooo...Crazy on ya
Crazy on you
Let me go crazy, crazy on you

I was a willow last night in my dream
I bent down over a clear running stream
Sang you the song that I heard up above
And you kept me alive with your sweet flowing love

Crazy
Yeah, crazy on ya
Let me go crazy, crazy on you, oh
Crazy on ya
Crazy on you
Let me go crazy, crazy on you, yeah

Crazy on ya
Crazy on you
Let me go crazy, crazy on you, ohhh..."

Judy Collins - In My Life

"There are places, I remember,
all my life though some have changed
some forever, not for better
some are gone, and some remain
all these places have their meanings
with lovers and friends I still can recall,
some are dead and some are living...
in my life, I've loved them all.

But of all these friends and lovers,
there is no one compares with you.
And these memories lose their meaning
when I think of love of something new.
Though I know I'll never lose affection for people
and things that went before,
I know I'll often stop and think about them.
In my life, I love you more.

Though I know I'll never lose affection for people
and things that went before,
I know I'll often stop and think about them.
In my life, I love you more. "

The Waterboys - Don't Bang The Drum

"Well here we are in a special place
what are you gonna do here?
Now we stand in a special place
what will you do here?
What show of soul are we gonna get from you?
It could be deliverance, or history
under these skies so blue
could be something true,
But if I know you you'll bang the drum
like monkeys do

Here we are in a fabulous place
What are you gonna dream here?
We are standing in this fabulous placeWell here we are in a special place
what are you gonna do here?
Now we stand in a special place
what will you do here?
What show of soul are we gonna get from you?
It could be deliverance, or history
under these skies so blue
could be something true,
But if I know you you'll bang the drum
like monkeys do

Here we are in a fabulous place
What are you gonna dream here?
We are standing in this fabulous place
What are you gonna play here?
I know you love the high life, you love to leap around
You love to beat your chest and make your sound
but not here man - this is sacred ground
with a Power flowing through
And if I know you you'll bang the drum
like monkeys do

Here we stand on a rocky shore
Your father stood here before you
I can see his ghost explore you
I can feel the sea implore you
Not to pass on by
Not to walk on by
and not to try
Just to let it come
Don't bang the drum
Just let it come
Don't bang the drum
Just let it come
Don't bang the drum
Do you know how to let it come now?
don't bang the drum now
Just let it come now come now come now come now ..
don't bang the drum now drum now drum now drum now...
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum

What are you gonna play here?
I know you love the high life, you love to leap around
You love to beat your chest and make your sound
but not here man - this is sacred ground
with a Power flowing through
And if I know you you'll bang the drum
like monkeys do

Here we stand on a rocky shore
Your father stood here before you
I can see his ghost explore you
I can feel the sea implore you
Not to pass on by
Not to walk on by
and not to try
Just to let it come
Don't bang the drum
Just let it come
Don't bang the drum
Just let it come
Don't bang the drum
Do you know how to let it come now?
don't bang the drum now
Just let it come now come now come now come now ..
don't bang the drum now drum now drum now drum now...
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum"
