Nation!...

Stephen Colbert killed last night "The Word: Prece-Don't".

(Chief Justice of the United States) John Roberts has a brilliant legal strategy to get around following precedent: not following precedent.

The next bit of learning

Will probably be this bit...

Fortunately I'm getting a bit more time on my hands in the near future.

Can't have a flamewar with music, maybe *about* it....

Blunt - Same Mistake(appropriate)

Joni Mitchell - Blue

"Blue, songs are like tattoos
You know I've been to sea before
Crown and anchor me
Or let me sail away
Hey Blue, THERE is a song for you
Ink on a pin
Underneath the skin
An empty space to fill in
Well there're so many sinking now
You've got to keep thinking
You can make it thru these waves
Acid, booze, and ass
Needles, guns, and grass
Lots of laughs, lots of laughs
Everybody's saying that hell's the hippest way to go
Well I don't think so
But I'm gonna take a look around it though
Blue, I love you

Blue, here is a shell for you
Inside you'll HEAR a sigh
A foggy lullaby
There is your song from me"

Judy Collins - Both Sides Now

"Bows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere, I've looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun they rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done, but clouds got in my way

I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's cloud's illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and ferris wheels the dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real, I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show, you leave 'em laughin when you go
And if you care don't let them know, don't give yourself away

I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud, to say, "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds, I've looked at life that way
But now old friends are acting strange they shake their heads, they say
I've changed
But something's lost but something's gained in living every day

I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all"

Kate Bush - Mother Stands For Comfort

"She knows that I've been doing something wrong,
But she won't say anything.
She thinks that I was with my friends yesterday,
But she won't mind me lying,
Because

Mother stands for comfort.
Mother will hide the murderer.

It breaks the cage, and fear escapes and takes possession,
Just like a crowd rioting inside.
(Make me do this, make me do that, make me do this, make me do that...)
Am I the cat that takes the bird?
To her the hunted, not the hunter.

Mother stands for comfort.
Mother will hide the murderer.
Mother hides the madman.
Mother will stay mum.

Mother stands for comfort.
Mother will hide the murderer.
Mother hides the madman.
Mother will stay mum."

Tori Amos - Leather

"Look I'm standing naked before you
Don't you want more then my sex
I can scream as loud as your last one
But I can't claim innocence

Oh God
Could it be the weather
Oh God
Why am I here
If love Isn't forever
And it's not the weather
Hand me my leather

I could just pretend that you love me
The night would lose all sense of fear
But why do I need you to love me
When you can't Hold what I hold dear

Oh God
Could it be the weather
Oh God
Why am I here
If love Isn't forever
And it's not the weather
Hand me my leather

I almost ran over an angel
He had a nice big fat cigar
"In a sense" he said "You're alone here
So if you jump you best jump far"

Oh God
Could it be the weather
Oh God
Why am I here
If love Isn't forever
And it's not the weather
Hand me my leathe"

King Crimson - Thela Hun Ginjeet

"Well
first of all

I couldn't even see his face.
I couldn't see his face.
He was holding a gun in his hand.
Umm... I was thinking...
This is a dangerous place..
This is a dangerous place..

I said
I'm nervous as hell from this stuff.I thought those guys were going to kill me for sure. They ganged up on me like that.I couldn't believe it.Look, I'm still shakin'.Weird.There out in the streets like that. It's a dangerous place. It's a dangerous place.

So
suddenly
these two guys appear in front of me.
They stopped.
Real aggressive.
Start at me
you know.
What's that?
What's that on that tape?
What do you got there?"
I said
huh?
They said
What are you talking into that for?
I said
It's just a tape, you know
Well play it for me
I said "oh
no"
I put it off as long as I could.
And finally they turned it on
you know
They grabbed it from me.
Took it away from me.
Turned it on.
And it said
He held a gun in his hand. This is a dangerous place.
They said
What dangerous place?
What gun?
You're a policeman!
And the deeper I talked
the worse I got into it.
I talked
I told him... I said

Look man, I'm not talkin'....
It went on forever.
Anyway
I finally unbuttoned my shirt
and said

look, look... I'm in this band, you know, I'm in this band you know, and we're makin' a recording, you know. It's about New York City, it's about crime in the streets...
The explanation was going nowhere
but

Finally
they just kinda let me go
I don't know why.
So I walk around the corner

and I'm like shakin' like a leaf

and I thought
This is a dangerous place

Who should appear
but two policeman."

Razorlight - America

Gentle Giant - In A Glass House(appropriate)

"Looking through the window, can you tell me what you see?
You're sure you're really seeing what is meant to be
A glass, a mirror to reflect what I conspire
A vision, image I desire.

Standing on the ice believing all I'm searching for
Close your cloudy eyes and chase all that you did before
Standing on the ice believing all I'm searching for
Close your cloudy eyes and chase all that you did before

Living in a glass house shielding all that's meant for me
Can you clear the shade and can you tell me what you see?

Shadow fills the light
Until the glass house becomes the night
The dark is gleaming or am I dreaming?

Running everywhere
Seeing clearly when I dare
Is it today or is it your way?

And the moon must fall
Inspiration waits for your call
For you to get a silhouette

Narrow the field aim in any direction
Do what I feel just to see my reflection

Any turn I know
Disappearing everywhere I go
I look to you for what you do

And only then I see
That the glass house is just for me
And any time is never mine

Narrow the field aim in any direction
Do what I feel just to see my reflection

Shadow fills the light
Until the glass house becomes night
The dark is gleaming or am I dreaming?

Running everywhere
Seeing clearly when I dare
Is it today or is it your way?

And the moon must fall
Inspiration waits for your call
For you to get a silhouette"

Heart - Crazy On You

"If we still have time, we might still get by
Every time I think about it, I wanna cry
With bombs and the devil, and the kids keep comin'
No way to breathe easy, no time to be young

But I tell myself that I was doin' all right
There's nothin' left to do at night
But to go crazy on you
Crazy on you
Let me go crazy, crazy on you, oh

My love is the evenin' breeze touchin' your skin
The gentle, sweet singin' of leaves in the wind
The whisper that calls after you in the night
And kisses your ear in the early moonlight
And you don't need to wonder, you're doing fine
My love, the pleasure's mine

Let me go crazy on ya
Crazy on you
Let me go crazy, crazy on you, ohhh

Wild man's world is cryin' in pain
What you gonna do when everybody's insane
So afraid of one who's so afraid of you
What you gonna do...ohhh...

Ooooo...Crazy on ya
Crazy on you
Let me go crazy, crazy on you

I was a willow last night in my dream
I bent down over a clear running stream
Sang you the song that I heard up above
And you kept me alive with your sweet flowing love

Crazy
Yeah, crazy on ya
Let me go crazy, crazy on you, oh
Crazy on ya
Crazy on you
Let me go crazy, crazy on you, yeah

Crazy on ya
Crazy on you
Let me go crazy, crazy on you, ohhh..."

Judy Collins - In My Life

"There are places, I remember,
all my life though some have changed
some forever, not for better
some are gone, and some remain
all these places have their meanings
with lovers and friends I still can recall,
some are dead and some are living...
in my life, I've loved them all.

But of all these friends and lovers,
there is no one compares with you.
And these memories lose their meaning
when I think of love of something new.
Though I know I'll never lose affection for people
and things that went before,
I know I'll often stop and think about them.
In my life, I love you more.

Though I know I'll never lose affection for people
and things that went before,
I know I'll often stop and think about them.
In my life, I love you more. "

The Waterboys - Don't Bang The Drum

"Well here we are in a special place
what are you gonna do here?
Now we stand in a special place
what will you do here?
What show of soul are we gonna get from you?
It could be deliverance, or history
under these skies so blue
could be something true,
But if I know you you'll bang the drum
like monkeys do

Here we are in a fabulous place
What are you gonna dream here?
We are standing in this fabulous placeWell here we are in a special place
what are you gonna do here?
Now we stand in a special place
what will you do here?
What show of soul are we gonna get from you?
It could be deliverance, or history
under these skies so blue
could be something true,
But if I know you you'll bang the drum
like monkeys do

Here we are in a fabulous place
What are you gonna dream here?
We are standing in this fabulous place
What are you gonna play here?
I know you love the high life, you love to leap around
You love to beat your chest and make your sound
but not here man - this is sacred ground
with a Power flowing through
And if I know you you'll bang the drum
like monkeys do

Here we stand on a rocky shore
Your father stood here before you
I can see his ghost explore you
I can feel the sea implore you
Not to pass on by
Not to walk on by
and not to try
Just to let it come
Don't bang the drum
Just let it come
Don't bang the drum
Just let it come
Don't bang the drum
Do you know how to let it come now?
don't bang the drum now
Just let it come now come now come now come now ..
don't bang the drum now drum now drum now drum now...
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum

What are you gonna play here?
I know you love the high life, you love to leap around
You love to beat your chest and make your sound
but not here man - this is sacred ground
with a Power flowing through
And if I know you you'll bang the drum
like monkeys do

Here we stand on a rocky shore

Don't bang the drum
Do you know how to let it come now?
don't bang the drum now
Just let it come now come now come now come now ..
don't bang the drum now drum now drum now drum now...
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum
Don't bang the drum"

Boring Flamewars.

People are actually reading this blog as long as I am sufficiently incendiary!

Hmmmm...

Update : such fun... /sarcasm

Apparently I am now directed to postings that have been removed. I have no fucking clue what is going on. Nor do I feel any need to. Water under the bridge. But I do believe that I responded 'inappropriate'. Pot and kettle and all that. And no 'Yanni' : I did not use one rude words in my initial reponse so stop whining. Learn some tact some time.

 /whatever : NEXT!

Let's see what I can dig up from this pile of music here.

Back to the 80ies - How not to go about organizing a party...

Let me tell you a short story about a small concert hall/cafe that ran into trouble about two years ago. No, let's not do that: it's getting more and more stale and boring. Let's talk a bit about what they're doing now, under new and 'professional management'.

Suffice it to say that I was asked to organize an 80ies retro party. My mates and me had done that before and we always managed to get between 180 and 250 people in on the night with a one-time record of around 350 visitors. Not bad if you consider that we're talking about 80ies music...

Of course those attendance numbers did not just come about by themselves. We used to put up posters, we would absolutely plaster our own neighbourhood with flyers, and we would not stop talking about it to people so they'd know what we were up to.

So after almost two years we were asked to organize a retro-thingy once more. No problem, we like doing it, and apparently the organization is much better now than it was before...

The trouble however, started about three to four weeks before the night in question. One fine day I received a phone call from one of the people working for the venue(who is responsible for the programming) who asked me where the 'artwork' was for the party. Now in the old days this venue had a complete promotional team that included everyone; from art-designers to distributors. HELL! We even bought an Apple G4 with all the bells and whistles. Those days are apparently gone for good. O.k.... perhaps I should have know earlier in the game, like maybe I could have been told what was expected of us, but whatever : the same day I put together a very simple poster/flyer. Nothing special, I lack many basic GIMP-/Photoshop-skills, but it was printable and it was promotion. These posters and flyers would now be printed at an official print-shop, after which we could distribute the things ourselves and just as importantly : hang the posters inside and outside the venue. That way all visitors would still see our announcement for several weeks.

To our surprise and dismay these posters/flyers did not come in. To have at least some promotional activity I printed about 10 posters at A4-size, walked through minus 10 degrees celsius to the joint and hung them on the walls.

The same evening - as it turned out - after I had left the building, these posters were ripped from the walls by what has to have been the crew manning the cafe that night. Why they did it : no idea. Am I certain it was that team? Wel... I did not witness it, but the rolls of remaining posters I had left behind the bar was also gone. So either these people thought it would be funny to remove my work behind my back, or they let unauthorized people behind their bar(and next to their money-till). Suffice to say that I will keep an eye on these people because if I see them do something like this again I will personally glue their balls to the wall.

Then again : in the meantime I received word that the posters would be hung up a day later. Rejoice Rejoice!! We would still have about two weeks of promotion. Hurrah! One day later I checked the walls but there was nothing there, no posters, no flyers, no nothing...

After asking/complaining about this, I was told that 'the server was down so we could not print/order/whatever the materials'. Lord Mother Of God! Is that an excuse to organize a party without anyone knowing about it? How come I think that this was just a bloody excuse to hide the inactivity of the organization? Perhaps because in the same time, the whole venue had been literally wall-papered with HuGe posters announcing the Valentine Day party in February?

So : No promotional materials made at all, the efforts of the party-organizers thwarted by some assholes who tore our stuff down behind our backs, etcetera etcetera.

For the record : a party like an 80ies Retro Party should be advertised to the hilt. It should be "Completely In Your Face". The target audience for a party like that does not usually visit a concert hall that often so it has to be made aware of a special activity that is very much aimed at them. Posters should be hanging on every wall in every shopping mall!

In the end the party was a complete failure as far as the attendance goes. We had several very well-known guest DJ's, there was a video wall, etcetera etcetera. And the only thing that went fine was that small cafe, which was pretty much filled up.

Ok, so that was one more bad experience although I should have known this was going to happen. We may do this one more time, with the emphasis on 'may'... Only if we do, this time we will be completely in charge. From the design of the promo-material, via the actual production of the posters up to and including the distribution of said materials.

Retro parties come and go, and it is obviously very well possible that the 80ies retro-wave is about over. But the only way to know that for sure is to do everything right. If people then still don't show up you have to seriously ask yourself if you should go and find something else to do.

A lot of people gave up their free evening to come and help out behind the bar, the wardrobe, you name it, all volunteers. Two security guys were hired(a standard procedure) and had to be paid quite a lot of money.

And in the meantime no one knows how many people could have been there last saturday.  And that sucks for everyone involved.

(Names and specific places have been 'obscured'. This blog-entry is not meant to hurt anyone in particular. If I want to start an ad hominem attack I know a couple of forums that are much better suited to do so.)

Mark Hollis - a truly uncompromising musician

I've been listening(actually I still am) to 'The Colour Of Spring' by Talk Talk and 'Mark Hollis' by the man himself. And people still dare say nothing of any value or interest happened in the 80ies. Un-be-lie-va-ble.

This man. together with David Sylvian, Peter Gabriel and possibly Robbie Robertson formed an army of uncompromising post-rock heroes that was instrumental in bringing us drum and bass in the 90ies. The only thing is that these people said just as much making a lot less noise.

Here is a very interesting article about Mark Hollis. A musician who voluntarily stepped out of the music business and was not heard of again.

"Forget our fate", the pedlar sings.
Set up to sell my soul,
I've lived a life for wealth to bring.
And yet I'll gaze at...
The colour of spring,
Immerse in that one moment,
Left in love with everything,
Soar the bridges that I burnt before,
One song among us all...

Rob-Laptop - A work in progress...

Being an amateur DJ as well as an experienced musician, I fell in love with VirtualDJ some time ago. It is by far the best, most complete and utterly stable DJ-tool I've seen so far. It has almost all of the essential options and tools a live DJ needs; mixing, effects sections, 12(!) sample slots for live sampling and playback(very useful when you are playing Drum and Bass and similar styles of music), etcetera. It also remembers the gain it has to generate to make all the songs sound pretty much at the same volume without sacrificing the dynamics of the music. I definitely don't want to hear super compressed music because I have suffered from that 'House-trick' for long enough. Everytime a stupid commercial walks by on TV or on a website I cringe because of the insanely high volume/compression. There should be a law against it, and I believe some countries are actually clearing new laws to ban this abuse of our ears. Anyway, back to VirtualDJ :

You can find more screenshots and information here if you're interested.

Ok : and then I switched to Linux. A great OS but Damn! VirtualDJ only runs under Windows!

So I installed VirtualBox in Linux and Windows XP/VirtualDJ as a guest. That amazing combination(think of the complex audio-routing: from VirtualDJ's own internal hardware-control via Windows via VirtualBox and the preferred sound engine in Ubuntu) worked fine for a while. Friends were amazed to see it work; Linux- and Windows-users alike.

'Unfortunately' Ubuntu then released a new version of their distro and VirtualDJ also released a new version of their software and everything went belly-up. The DJ-software still ran somewhat, but the sound quality was abysmal and it ate up all the CPU cycles of my 2.6Ghz Laptop. I tried everything I could think of to fix this,  in Windows as well as in Ubuntu, but to no avail.

So this week I installed Ubuntu in its own partition(thanks go out to Mattijs of Pegasys ICT for the assistance and the personal lessons!) and I installed Windows 7 in another dedicated partition. My reasoning was that if nothing works I can always run a dual boot machine and boot Windows 7 for the DJ-gigs.

I finished installing and configuring Windows 7 and VirtualDJ tonight and it works like a dream(well of course : it is basically a standard Windows machine on a fine and pretty modern laptop).

Of course there are always snags. In this case the Windows 7 installation ruins GRUB so I can't boot Ubuntu anymore. That is a well documented problem however(thank you Ubuntu community!) with a relatively easy solution so I'll get that to work later this week.

One other - and unexpected - practical upshot of installing Windows 7 by the way, is that my Remote Desktop Connection to the workplace(for my standby shifts) now works much better. Under Ubuntu I have a pretty serious problem with the time it takes for the remote desktop to be built up and displayed, so I was forced to work with limited colours and a limited window-size. Under Windows 7 everything works lightning fast and full screen.

Although I'm not a particularly big Windows-fan I have to give credit where credit's due : Windows 7 is a major step towards a really seriously grown up PC Operating System. I'd almost start to think that those techies at Microsoft actually listened to the criticism about Vista(for me the biggest mistake in OS-land ever. Even ME ran better).

So another day or so and I can use whatever operating system that is most suitable for the application. Next stop will be to install VMWare and see if I can get Windows 7 and VirtualDJ to work properly in that configuration. If so I can always delete the Windows 7 partition again.

I keep learning, but that is one of the purposes of life in my opinion. For now I am massively enjoying VirtualDJ again. And that's what started it all.

Now excuse me while I put on Dave Matthews' LOUDDDddd version of All Along The Watch Tower. I feel another setlist coming up...

Reading : 'Anthem' by Ayn Rand

I'm currently reading 'Anthem' by Ayn Rand. 'Anthem' is a dystopian story set in a future in which all knowledge is privileged information and the search for new knowledge is suppressed in every way possible. All people are supposed to be created equal and no one is allowed to differ from the rest, or at least be in any way proud of being different.

To quote Ayn Rand :
"Our name is Equality 7-2521, as it is written on the iron bracelet which all men wear on their left wrists with their names upon it. We are twenty-one years old. We are six feet tall, and this is a burden, for there are not many men who are six feet tall. Ever have the Teachers and the Leaders pointed to us and frowned and said: "There is evil in your bones, Equality 7-2521, for your body has grown beyond the bodies of your brothers." But we cannot change our bones nor our body."

'Anthem' was the inspiration for Neil Peart when he wrote the lyrics to '2112' by RUSH. As a comparison here, first, are the liner notes from '2112' that set up the story perfectly :

"I lie awake, staring out at the bleakness of Megadon. City and sky become one, merging Into a single plane, a vast sea of unbroken grey. The Twin Moons, just two pale orbs as They trace their way across the steely sky. I used to think I had a pretty good life here, Just plugging into my machine for the day, then watching Templevision or reading a Temple Paper in the evening.

My friend Jon always said it was nicer here than under the atmospheric domes of the Outer Planets. We have had peace since 2062, when the surviving planets were banded together under The Red Star of the Solar Federation. The less fortunate gave us a few new moons...

I believed what I was told. I thought it was a good life, I thought I was happy. Then I found Something that changed it all..."

Ayn Rand again :

"We strive to be like all our brother men, for all men must be alike.
Over the portals of the Palace of the World Council, there are words cut in the marble, which we are required to repeat to ourselves whenever we are tempted:

"We are one in all and all in one.
There are no men but only the great WE,
     One, indivisible and forever."

As compared to Peart's lyrics :

"We are the priests of the Temple Of Syrinx
Our great computers fill the hallowed halls
We are the priests of the Temple Of Syrinxs
All the gifts of life are held within these walls"

Note the 'We' used in 'Anthem' in almost every sentence. There is no individuality in Anthem's world. No one is allowed to use 'I' anymore lest he or she become an individual.

Ayn Rand :

"We think that there are mysteries in the sky and under the water and in the plants which grow. But the Council of Scholars has said that there are no mysteries, and the Council of Scholars knows all things. And we learned much from our Teachers. We learned that the earth is flat and that the sun revolves around it, which causes the day and night. We learned the names of all the winds which blow over the seas and push the sails of our great ships. We learned how to bleed men to cure them of all ailments."

Compare Neil Peart :

"We've taken care of everything
The words you read, the songs you sing
The pictures that bring pleasure to the eyes
Oh what a nice contented world
Let the banners be unfurled
Hold the Red Star proudly high in hand"

I could analyze the complete novella(or '2112' for that matter) but that would spoil the fun of reading and listening to it yourself. Suffice it to say that Peart did an admirable job; he interpreted 'Anthem' quite loosely but at the same time stayed true to the deeper meaning of the story.

Reading 'Anthem while listening to '2112' is a very interesting experience, as long as you play the album LOUD!

Weather Report

They just scaled up the weather warning for tomorrow. What a perfect moment to play the legendary Weather Report!  Oh; and some other stuff about the weather.

Weather Report - A Remark You Made (instrumental)

John Martyn - Bless The Weather

Time after time, I held it
Just to watch it die
Line after line, I loved it
Just to watch it cry.

Bless the weather that brought you to me
Curse the storm that takes you away
Bless the weather that brought you to me
Curse the storm that takes you home.

Wave after wave, I watched it
Just to watch it turn
Day after day, I cooled it
Just to watch it burn.

Bless the weather that brought you to me
Curse the storm that takes you home
Bless the weather that brought you to me
Curse the storm that takes you away.

Pain after pain I stood in
Just to see how it would feel
Rain after rain I stood in
Just to make it real.

Bless the weather that brought you to me
Curse the day you go away
Bless the weather that brought you to me
Curse the storm that takes you away.

Time after time, I held it
Just to watch it die
Line after line, I held it
Just to watch it cry.

Bless the weather that brought you to me
Curse the storm that takes you away
Bless the weather that brought you to me
Curse the storm that takes you away.

Fleetwood Mac - Storms

 Every night that goes between
I feel a little less
As you slowly go away from me
This is only another test

Every night you do not come
Your softness fades away
Did I ever really care that much
Is there anything left to say

Every hour of fear I spend
My body tries to cry
Living through each empty night
A deadly calm inside

I haven't felt this way I feel
Since many a year ago
But in those years and the lifetimes past
I did not deal with the road

And I did not deal with you I know
Tho the love has always been
So I search to find an answer there
So I can truly win

Every hour of fear I spend
My body tries to cry
Living through each empty night
A deadly calm inside

So I try to say
Goodbye my friend
I'd like to leave you with something warm
But never have I been a blue calm sea
I have always been a storm
always been a storm
ooh always been a storm
I have always been a storm

We were frail

She said,
"Everynight he will break your heart"
I should have known from the first
I'd be the broken-hearted

I loved you from the start
Save us...
And not all the prayers in the world -- could save us

Crowded House - Weather With You

Walking ’round the room singing
Stormy weather
At 57 mt. pleasant st.
Now it’s the same room but everything’s different
You can fight the sleep but not the dream

Things ain’t cooking in my kitchen
Strange affliction wash over me
Julius caesar and the roman empire
Couldn’t conquer the blue sky

There’s a small boat made of china
Going nowhere on the mantlepiece
Do I lie like a loungeroom lizard
Or do I sing like a bird released

Everywhere you go you always take the weather with you

Aphrodite's Child - Rain And Tears

Rain and tears, are the same
but in the sun
you've got to play the game

When you cry
in winter time
you can pretend
it's nothing but the rain

How many times I've seen
tears coming from your blue eyes

Rain and tears, are the same
but in the sun
you've got to play the game

Give me an answer of love
I need an answer of love

Rain and tears in the sun
But in your heart
you feel the rainbow waves

Rain and tears
both I shun
for in my heart there 'll never be a sun

Rain and tears, are the same
but in the sun
you've got to play the game
Game...

Howard Jones - A Little Bit Of Snow(well, sort of. Not literally of course)

Please don't throw you away we need you to stay
When you die a part of us dies
Not the body but part of the soul
You have a light for us we need every glimmer
Don't destroy yourself in a little bit of snow
When there is no feeling and no pain
It only lasts a little while
When one light goes out a part of all of us cries

Please hang on for us
Please give you to us
Don't destroy yourself in a little bit of snow

Please don't throw you away we need you to stay
When you die a part of us dies
Not the body but part of the soul
Drink the sunshine warm to the rain
Keep the glimmer alive for all of us
And a million matches in the night
Will help to light the way
When one light goes out
A part of all of us cries

Please hang on for us
Please give you to us
Don't destroy yourself in a little bit of snow

Drink the sunshine, warm to the rain
Keep the glimmer alive for all of us
And a million matches in the night
Will help to light the way
When one light goes out
A part of all of us cries

Frank Zappa - Don't Eat The Yellow Snow

Dreamed I was an Eskimo
Frozen wind began to blow
Under my boots and around my toes
The frost that bit the ground below
It was a hundred degrees below zero...

And my mama cried
And my mama cried
Nanook, a-no-no
Nanook, a-no-no
Don't be a naughty Eskimo
Save your money, don't go to the show

Well I turned around and I said "Oh, oh" Oh
Well I turned around and I said "Oh, oh" Oh
Well I turned around and I said "Ho, Ho"
And the northern lights commenced to glow
And she said, with a tear in her eye
"Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow"
"Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow"

Snowy White - Sweet Bird Of Paradise

Saw you flying by
Flash of Turquoise Blue
I just had to try
To keep your life in view

My bird of paradise
Sweet bird of paradise

Wish that I could fly
I'd be beside you now
w you flying by
Flash of Turquoise Blue
I just had to try
To keep your life in view

My bird of paradise
Sweet bird of paradise

Wish that I could fly
I'd be beside you now
But I can only sigh
And watch you circle round

My bird of paradise
Sweet bird of paradise
My bird of paradise
Sweet bird of paradise
My bird of paradise

So you fly away
When will you come again
So I can watch you play
In the pouring rain

My bird of paradise
Sweet bird of paradise
My bird of paradise
Sweet bird of paradise
My bird of paradise

But I can only sigh
And watch you circle round

My bird of paradise
Sweet bird of paradise
My bird of paradise
Sweet bird of paradise
My bird of paradise

So you fly away
When will you come again
So I can watch you play
In the pouring rain

My bird of paradise
Sweet bird of paradise
My bird of paradise
Sweet bird of paradise
My bird of paradise

      Mon petite soiree du musique...jusque...aaahhh!

      Bluegirls come in every size
Some are wise and some otherwise,
      They got pretty blue eyes.
For an hour a man may change
For an hour her face looks strange -
      Looks strange, looks strange.

      Marching to the promised land
Where the honey flows and takes you by the hand,
Pulls you down on your knees,
While you're down a pool appears.
The face in the water looks up,
And she shakes her head as if to say
That it's the last time you'll look like today.

      Sail away, away
      Ripples never come back.
      Gone to the other side.
      Sail away, away.

The face that launched a thousand ships
Is sinking fast, that happens you know,
      The water gets below.
      Seems not very long ago
Lovelier she was than any that I know.

      Angels never know it's time
To close the book and gracefully decline,
The song has found a tale.
My, what a jealous pool is she.
The face in the water looks up
She shakes her head as if to say
That the bluegirls have all gone away.

      Sail away, away
      Ripples never come back.
They've gone to the other side.
      Look into the pool,
      Ripples never come back,
Dive to the bottom and go to the top
To see where they have gone
Oh, they've gone to the other side...

      Sail away, away
      Ripples never come back.
They've Gone to the other side.
      Look into the pool,
The ripples never come back, come back,
Dive to the bottom and go to the top
To see where they have gone
They've gone to the other side
      Ripples never come back
      Sail away, away...

      Aaaah...The Steve Hackett Era...\

Dark and grey, an English film, the Wednesday Play
We always watch the Queen on Christmas Day
      Won't you stay?

Though your eyes see shipwrecked sailors you're still dry
The outlook's fine though Wales might have some rain
      Saved again.

Let's skip the news boy (I'll make some tea)
The Arabs and the Jews boy (too much for me)
They get me confused boy (puts me off to sleep)
And the thing I hate - Oh Lord!
Is staying up late, to watch some debate, on some nation's fate.

Hypnotised by Batman, Tarzan, still surprised!
You've won the West in time to be our guest
      Name your prize!

Drop of wine, a glass of beer dear what's the time?
The grime on the Tyne is mine all mine all mine
      Five past nine.

Blood on the rooftops - Venice in the Spring
Streets of San Francisco - a word from Peking
The trouble was started - by a young Errol Flynn
Better in my day - Oh Lord!
For when we got bored, we'd have a world war, happy but poor

So let's skip the news boy (I'll go make that tea)
Blood on the rooftops (too much for me)
When old Mother Goose stops - they're out for 23
Then the rain at Lords stopped play
Seems Helen of Troy has found a new face again

As this is MY blog.. I shall do whatever I ****** please here...

Frum zee 'ere on ietweel bie juste mon choice..

      So 'AaiDE'!!!!!

One of the most beautiful lyrics I ever read(seriously)

Because he called the forest "Brother"
Because he calls the Earth his mother
They drove him out into the rain
Some people even said the boy from the country was insane

Because he spoke to fish in the creek
He tried to tell us that the animals could speak
      Who knows? Perhaps they do
How do you know they don't just because they've never spoken to you?

      Boy from the country
Left his home when he was young
      Boy from the country
      He loves the sun.

He tried to tell us we should love the land
We just turned our heads and laughed; you see we did not understand
Sometimes I think the boy from the country is the only one who sees
'Cause the boy from the country doesn't want to see the forest for the trees.

      Boy from the country
Left his home when he was young
      Boy from the country
      He loves the sun.

Yeah, and now it's ABBA night!!!

If It Wasn't For The Night.

      DISCO BABY!!!

I got appointments, work I have to do
Keeping me so busy all the day through
They're the things that keep me from thinking of you
Ohhh baby, I miss you so, I know I'm never gonna make it
Oh, I'm so restless, I don't care what I say
And I lose my temper ten times a day
Still it's even worse when the night's on its way
      It's bad, oh, so bad

Somehow I'd be doing alright if it wasn't for the nights
(If it wasn't for the nights I think that I could make it)
I'd have courage left to fight if iI got appointments, work I have to do

I'd have courage left to fight if it wasn't for the nights
(If it wasn't for the nights I think that I could take it)
How I fear the time when shadows start to fall
Sitting here alone and staring at the wall
Even I could see a light if it wasn't for the nights
(Even I could see a light I think that I could make it)
Somehow I'd be doing alright if it wasn't for the nights
(If it wasn't for the nights I think that I could take it)

No one to turn to, you know how it is
I was not prepared for something like this
Now I see them clearly, the things that I miss
Ohhh baby, I feel so bad, I know I'm never gonna make it
I got my business to help me through the day
People I must write to, bills I must pay
But everything's so different when night's on its way
      It's bad, oh, so bad

Somehow I'd be doing alright if it wasn't for the nights

For all the people who haven't given up completely. For the 'married' pelple :

Sit down and listen 'cause I've got good news for you
It was in the papers today
Some physician had made a discovery
This' what she had to say:
      (Oooh you know that)

She said that every result she had backed her
Claiming that love's a longevity factor

So lovers live a little longer, baby
You and me, we got a chance to live twice
Lovers live a little longer, ain't that nice
Lovers live a little longer, baby
What a feeling when I hold you tight
Lovers live a little longer, yeah

I can imagine, I'll see in my fantasy
      I'll enjoy every day
Making love is a dynamite drug, baby
So why don't we start right away
      (Ahh, please don't wait)

I don't care if they're watching 'cause listen
We've got a reason for each time we're kissing

'Cause lovers live a little longer, baby
You and me, we got a chance to live twice
Lovers live a little longer, ain't that nice
Lovers live a little longer, baby
What a feeling when I hold you tight
Lovers live a little longer, yeah

I just don't care if they're watching 'cause listen
We've got a reason for each time we're kissing

'Cause lovers live a little longer, baby
You and me, we got a chance to live twice
Lovers live a little longer, ain't that nice
Lovers live a little longer, baby
What a feeling when I hold you tight
Lovers live a little longer, yeah

Lovers live a little longer, baby
You and me, we got a chance to live twice
Lovers live a little longer, yeah

      night city...
      Summer night city...
Waiting for the sunrise, soul dancing in the dark
      Summer night city
Walking in the moonlight, love-making in the park
      Summer night city
In the sun I feel like sleeping
I can't take it for too long
      My impatience slowly creeping
Up my spine and growing strong
I know what's waiting there for me
      Tonight I'm loose and fancy-free
      Aa-ahhh
When the night comes with the action
I just know it's time to go
      Can't resist the strange attraction
      From that giant dynamo
Lots to take and lots to give
Time to breathe and time to live

Waiting for the sunrise, soul dancing in the dark
      Summer night city
Walking in the moonlight, love-making in the park
      Summer night city

      It's elusive call it glitter
      Somehow something turns me on
Some folks only see the litter
We don't miss them when they're gone
I love the feeling in the air
      My kind of people everywhere

When the night comes with the action
I just know it's time to go
      Can't resist the strange attraction
      From that giant dynamo

      And tomorrow, when it's dawning
And the first birds start to sing
In the pale light of the morning
      Nothing's worth remembering
      It's a dream, it's out of reach
      Scattered driftwood on the beach

Waiting for the sunrise, soul dancing in the dark
      Summer night city
Walking in the moonlight, love-making in the park
      Summer night city
      (repeat 2x and fade)

Voulez Vous(Just as they were getting really good they split up)

      People everywhere
A sense of expectation hangin' in the air
      Givin' out a spark
Across the room your eyes are glowin' in the dark
And here we go again, we know the start, we know the end
      Masters of the scene
We've done it all before and now we're back to get some more
      You know what I mean

      Voulez-vous (aha!)
Take it now or leave it (aha!)
Now is all we get (aha!)
      Nothing promised, no regrets
      Voulez-vous (aha!)
      Ain't no big decision (aha!)
You know what to do (aha!)
      La question c'est voulez-vous
      Voulez-vous

      I know what you think
The girl means business so I'll offer her a drink
      Lookin' mighty proud
I see you leave your table, pushin' through the crowd
I'm really glad you came, you know the rules, you know the game
      Master of the scene
We've done it all before and now we're back to get some more
      You know what I mean

      Voulez-vous (aha!)
Take it now or leave it (aha!)

Donna and Barbra(blergh!!!) for teh ladies : enough is enough

      t's raining, it's pouring
my lovelife is boring me to tears,
      after all these years

      No sunshine, no moonlight,
no stardust, no sign of romance
      we don't stand a chance

I've always dreamed I 'd find the perfect lover
but he turned out to be like every other man
      our love, our love

      Raining (raining)
      pouring (pouring)
there's nothing left for us here
and we won't waste another tear

      If you've had enough,
don't put up with his stuff,
      don't you do it
      If you've had your fill,
get the check pay the bill,
      you can do it

Tell him to just get out
      nothing left to talk about
pack his raincoat show him out
just look him in the eyes and simply shout

      Enough is enough is enough
I can't go on, I can't go on, no more no
      enough is enough is enough
I want him out, I want him out that door now

I've always dreamed to find the perfect lover,
but he turns out to be like every other man
our love (I had no choice from the start)
our love (I've gotta listen to my heart)
      our love (tearing us apart)

      Enough, is enough, is enough
I can't go on, I can't go on no more no
      enough, is enough, is enough
I want him out, I want him out that door now

      Goodbye mister, goodbye,
      goodbye mister, goodbye sugar

      No more tears
      no more tears
      no more tears
I've had it, you've had it, he's had it, we've had it
enough is enough is enough is enough

is enough is enough is enough is ENOUGH!!!

Funny: An old friend of mine used to collect weird and rare singles(as in the 45"). He used to have catalogs filled with the stuff. And keep in mind: this was around 1981 so no interwebs and mister google).

So Hans played 'Mac Arthur Park'.... three years before it became the blockbuster..

Spring was never waiting for us, girl
      it ran one step ahead
as we followed in the dance.

      Between the parted pages
      we were pressed,
      in love's hot, fevered iron
like a striped pair of pants.

Mac Arthur's Park is melting in the dark
all the sweet green icing flowing down
someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'cause it took so long to bake it
and I'll never have that recipe again
      Oh, nooo!

I recall the yellow cotton dress
      foaming like a wave
on the ground beneath your knees
birds like tender babies in your hands
      and the old men playing
      Chinese checkers
      by the trees

Mac Arthur's Park is melting in the dark
all the sweet green icing flowing down
someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'cause it took so long to bake it
and I'll never have that recipe again
      Oh, nooo!

There'll be another song for me
      and I will sing it
there'll be another dream for me
      someone will bring it

And now for some good late night music... Part II (Insomnia Rulez)

      And the Insomniatic(???) saga continues...

Melissa E. - Bring Me Some Water(2 Meter sessies Volume 1)

      Tonight I feel so weak
But all in love is fair
      I turn the other cheek
And I feel the slap and the sting of the foul night air
And I know you're only human
And I haven't got talking room
But tonight while I'm making excuses
Some other woman is making love to you

      Somebody bring me some water
Can't you see I'm burning alive
Can't you see my baby's got another lover
      I don't know how I'm gonna survive
      Somebody bring me some water
Can't you see it's out of control
Baby's got my heart and my baby's got my mind
But tonight the sweet Devil's got my soul

      When will this aching pass
When will this night be through
I want to hear the breaking glass
I only feel the steel of the red hot truth
And I'd do anything to get it out of my mind
I need some insanity that temporary kind
Tell me how will I ever be the same
When I know that woman is whispering your name

      Somebody bring me some water
Can't you see I'm burning alive
Can't you see my baby's got another lover
      I don't know how I'm gonna survive
      Somebody bring me some water
Can't you see it's out of control
Baby's got my heart and my baby's got my mind
But tonight the sweet Devil's got my soul

Oh, the Devil's got my soul

      Somebody bring me some water
Can't you see I'm burning alive
Can't you see my baby's got another lover
      I don't know how I'm gonna survive
      Somebody bring me some water
Can't you see it's out of control
Baby's got my heart and my baby's got my mind
But tonight the sweet Devil's got my soul
And now for some good late night music...

UK - Rendez Vous 6:02 (voor Alfred)

      It's 5 o'clock
      driving sown Park Lane
      as London leaves
      for the weekend again

      through the dark city streets
      in the clinging rain
      I take my car
      towards the Thames
      and Waterloo......
      6.02 Waterloo
Was that a face I saw?
No, just a trick of light
      It's getting clearer now
      but moving out of sight
      It's cold and late
and I can't miss that train
      I turn around
      walk through the arch
      of Waterloo
I saw the same hooded face
He beckoned me from the gate
"Did you not know, my friend?
Ten years ago was the end
      After the war
      Waterloo was no more,
      But your ticket states
      There is one train
      It's leaving now
      And there is a place
      Remember my face
and Waterloo......" driving sown Park Lane
      as London leaves
      for the weekend again
I said hey, I said hey Sister Moonshine.
      through the dark city streets
      in the clinging rain
      I take my car
      towards the Thames
      and Waterloo......
      6.02 Waterloo

      James Blunt - Same Mistake

Saw the world turning in my sheets and once again I cannot sleep.
Walk out the door and up the street; look at the stars beneath my feet.
Remember rights that I did wrong, so here I go.
      Hello, hello.
There is no place I cannot go.
My mind is muddy but my heart is heavy. Does it show?
I lose the track that loses me, so here I go.
And so I sent some men to fight, and one came back at dead of night.
Said he'd seen my enemy. Said he looked just like me,
So I set out to cut myself and here I go.

I'm not calling for a second chance,
I'm screaming at the top of my voice.
Give me reason but don't give me choice.
'Cause I'll just make the same mistake again.

And maybe someday we will meet, and maybe talk and not just speak.
Don't buy the promises 'cause, there are no promises I keep.
And my reflection troubles me, so here I go.

I'm not calling for a second chance,
I'm screaming at the top of my voice.
Give me reason but don't give me choice.
'Cause I'll just make the same mistake,
I'm not calling for a second chance,
I'm screaming at the top of my voice.
Give me reason but don't give me choice.
'Cause I'll just make the same mistake again.

Saw the world turning in my sheets and once again I cannot sleep.
Walk out the door and up the street; look at the stars.
Look at the stars fall down.
And wonder where did I go wrong.

      Razorlight - America

      What a drag it is
      The shape i'm in
      Well I go out somewhere
      Then I come home again

      I light a cigarette
'Cause I can't get no sleep
Theres nothing on the TV nothing on the radio
That means that much to me

      All my life
      Watching America
      All my life
      There's panic in America
      Oh Oh Oh, Oh
      There's trouble in America
      Oh Oh Oh, Oh

      Yesterday was easy
      Happiness came and went
      I got the movie script
But I don't know what it meant

      I light a cigarette
'Cause I can't get no sleep
Theres nothing on the TV nothing on the radio
That means that much to me
Theres nothing on the TV nothing on the radio
      That I can believe in

      All my life
      Watching America
      All my life
      There's panic in America
      Oh Oh Oh, Oh
      There's trouble in America
      Oh Oh Oh, Oh
      There's panic in America
      Oh Oh Oh, Oh

      Yesterday was easy
      Yes I got the news
When you get it straight, but stand up you just can't lose
Give you my confidence, all my faith in life

      Dont stand me up
      Don't let me down
      I need you tonight
To hold me, say you'll be here
To hold me, say you'll be here
To hold me, say you'll be here

      All my life
      Watching America
      All my life
      There's panic in America
      Oh Oh Oh, Oh
      she's lost in America
      Oh Oh Oh, Oh

Bruce Cockburn(The Magical One!!) - If I Had A Rocket Launcher

Everyone knows I'm A Lyrics Freak. Ok?? So this is one of the best lyrics I had the honour to read.

Here comes the helicopter -- second time today
Everybody scatters and hopes it goes away
How many kids they've murdered only God can say
If I had a rocket launcher...I'd make somebody pay

I don't believe in guarded borders and I don't believe in hate
I don't believe in generals or their stinking torture states
And when I talk with the survivors of things too sickening to relate
If I had a rocket launcher...I would retaliate

On the Rio Lacantun, one hundred thousand wait
To fall down from starvation -- or some less humane fate
Cry for guatemala, with a corpse in every gate
If I had a rocket launcher...I would not hesitate

I want to raise every voice -- at least I've got to try
Every time I think about it water rises to my eyes.
Situation desperate, echoes of the victims cry
If I had a rocket launcher...Some son of a bitch would die

The Church - Under The Milky Way(2 meter sessies volume 1)

      Really an underestimated band...

Sometimes when this place gets kind of empty
Sound of their breath fades with the light
I think about the loveless fascinationSometimes when this place gets kind of empty
Sound of their breath fades with the light
I think about the loveless fascination
      Under the Milky Way tonight

Lower the curtain down on Memphis
Lower the curtain down all right
I got no time for private consultationSometimes when this place gets kind of empty
Sound of their breath fades with the light
I think about the loveless fascination
      Under the Milky Way tonight

Lower the curtain down on Memphis
Lower the curtain down all right
I got no time for private consultation
      Under the Milky Way tonight

Wish I knew what you were looking for
Might have known what you would find
Wish I knew what you were looking for
Might have known what you would find

      And it's something quite peculiar
      Something shimmering and white
Leads you here despite your destination
      Under the Milky Way tonight

Wish I knew what you were looking for
Might have known what you would find
Wish I knew what you were looking for
Might have known what you would find

      Under the Milky way tonight..

The Fantastic Rory Block - Loving Whiskey

Well if you live in dusty twilight baby, that's ok
Cause there are woman at the bar to greet you every day

You can take them back to lie with you and visit Jamie's room
But they can never take the pain away
      Or brighten all the gloom

And if your hands are cleansed with sorrow
May it help you ease your pain
Though the windows have a view of city rain, city rain

Well if you walk in constant sorrow
      And you cry for me
And if your hit with painful memories
      Maybe then you'll see

That if you drown yourself in liquor
      Because it keeps you company
Then just remember who you're losing
And be proud to set me free

Because it don't talk back or disagree
It just makes you see so hazily
But in de morning light your life is scattered with the wind,
      scattered with the wind

And they tell you on the telephone to let him go
I said they tell you he's a sinking ship
And he'll try to pull you down
      Don't you know

That every time you call me up and said you want me back
You know you break my heart
You sad you want me to come back home and try again
You want me to make a brand new start

But if whisdom says to let him go
Than it's hell because you just dont know
Untill you've tried to love a man who's lovin' whiskey
      Lovin' whiskey

My baby left me for a bottle
And the lure of the nightlife
      Good times and crazy women
      And another glass of tangerine

But if whisdom says to let him go
Then it's hell because you just dont know
Untill you've tried to love a man who's lovin' whiskey
      Lovin' whiskey

       Michael Penn(The Eternal Folk-Prodigy) - No Myth

So, she says it's time she goes
but wanted to be sure I know
she hopes we can be friends
I think, yeah, I guess we can say I
but didn't think to ask her why
she blocked her eyes and drew the curtains
with knots I've got yet to untie
what if I were Romeo in black jeans
what if I was Heathcliff, it's no myth
      Maybe she's just looking for
      Someone to dance with

      and looking for some parallel
      can be an endless game
We, we said goodbye before hello
my secrets she will never know
and if I dig a hole to China
I'll catch the first junk to Soho

      someone to dance with
See, it was just too soon to tell
      and looking for some parallel
      can be an endless game
We, we said goodbye before hello
my secrets she will never know
and if I dig a hole to China
I'll catch the first junk to Soho
what if I were Romeo in black jeans
what if I was Heathcliff, it's no myth
      maybe she's just looking for

Sometime from now you'll bow to pressure
some things in life you cannot measure by degrees
I'm between the poles and the equator
don't send no private investigator to find me please
      'less he speaks Chinese
and can dance like Astaire overseas, OK
      what if I was
      so what if I was

10CC - Feel The Benefit (another band that was just taken for 'some band')

You went out on the street without your shoes on
You didn't listen what your momma said
She said you won't feel the benefit, won't feel the benefit
And if we all went out without our shoes on
Tell me where would we be, where would we be

If all the people in the world lost their reason
What would we see, where would we be
If all the entertainers in the world lost their music
What would they play, what could they say
To pacify the crowd, to justify themselves
      Won't feel the benefit

You're like a cloud behind the sun
Like the face behind the clown
You're moving like the wrinkles in a frown
And you can never look back
A leaf that's borne upon the wind
A cardboard suitcase in your hand
      The wanderer soon returns
And finds the colour of the grass is just the same
On the other side of the tracks, oh no

Ooh when you smile it's like a holiday
Ooh pack your bags and we can get away
We'll float on a Queen down to Rio
      There's no need to shave
We'll be stinking like rum in a punch

You can walk on the water
You can dabble in the mumbo jumbo
You can smoke a little ganja
Float like a cloud over Rio, Rio
You can ride with the Gauchos
Swinging your bolas in a red bandana
You can run with the devil
      Takin' your chances with Senorita

You can drink a lot of coffee in Brazil
But the bill is gonna make you ill

So, you can go out on the street and take your chances
But if you do, you better do it right
Or you won't feel the benefit, won't feel the benefit
Spin the wheel and take your chances
And your number might come up
Though the odds may be in favor of the house

If all the people in the world would say together
We're all black and white, we're all day and night
If all the people in the world could sing together
How would it sound, what would we feel

      We'd all feel the benefit

Oh, and before I forget :

      HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!!!

      No more champagne
      And the fireworks are through
Here we are, me and you
      Feeling lost and feeling blue
It's the end of the party
And the morning seems so grey
      So unlike yesterday
Now's the time for us to say...

      Happy new year
      Happy new year
May we all have a vision now and then
Of a world where every neighbour is a friend
      Happy new year
      Happy new year
May we all have our hopes, our will to try
If we don't we might as well lay down and die
      You and I

      Sometimes I see
How the brave new world arrives
And I see how it thrives
In the ashes of our lives
Oh yes, man is a fool
And he thinks he'll be okay
      Dragging on, feet of clay
      Never knowing he's astray
      Keeps on going anyway...

      Happy new year
      Happy new year
May we all have a vision now and then
Of a world where every neighbour is a friend
      Happy new year
      Happy new year
May we all have our hopes, our will to try
If we don't we might as well lay down and die
      You and I

      Seems to me now
That the dreams we had before
      Are all dead, nothing more
      Than confetti on the floor
It's the end of a decade
      In another ten years time
Who can say what we'll find
What lies waiting down the line
      After 2009...

      Happy new year
      Happy new year
May we all have a vision now and then
Of a world where every neighbour is a friend
      Happy new year
      Happy new year
May we all have our hopes, our will to try
If we don't we might as well lay down and die
      You and I

      A New Name A New .... Whatever...

So Ok yeah? I admit it... I am one big fucking lyrics freak.

      Words CAN change the world...

      Yeah they were absolutely crap...

I'm sure the 'Erikjes' and the 'Markjes' of this world will find a way to diss this stuff. Then again; this is not for them...

      Supertramp :

      Surely
      It's A Long Road
And I am not like other birds of prey
      Words Unspoken
      Maybe I'm A Beggar

I ain't got too much money, I ain't got too much sense
Long ago I had a dream but that's no recompense
My father was a blind man, my brother was a fool
My mother told me "God is love"
      But hatred makes the rules

      Teach me to fly
So I shan't drag my feet in the sand
      Give me the sky
I would take the whole world in my hand

      World, don't you tell me
      I cannot last forever
Before you know I'll come and go
And make you if I can

Maybe I'm a beggar, just check your sympathy
They throw away their gentle love
And keep their pain for me

Can we be free, in a world where to love is to own?
Well when will we see, that a man must face life all alone?

Maybe I'm a beggar, just check your sympathy
They throw away their gentle love
and keep their pain for me

      Teach me to fly
So I shan't drag my feet in the sand
      Give me the sky
I would take the whole world in my hand

Can we be free, in a world where to love is to own?
Well when will we see, that a man must face life all alone?
      Home Again

Many is the time that a dream has gone wrong
      When you're with me
Many is the time when the blame went to you
      Please forgive me
But the truth is my friend
That the world isn't quite as I thought it to be
Oh no, I wish I were back home again
Oh no, I wish I were back home again
Oh no, I wish I were back home again
La la la , I wish I were back home again

      Nothing To Show

Nothing to show beyond the fevered head
Body so warm within his perfumed bed
Sleeping alone the shadow of a man
His will ties into an empty can
Nothing to show for love has never been
Nothing to show for love has never been
Nothing to show for love has never been

Putting his hand upon a changing breast
Many the empty hopes his lips caress
Sorry to say his days are spent in vain
Chasing a dream of doom and nights ahead
Nothing to show for love has never been
Nothing to show for love has never been
Nothing to show for love has never been

Shadowing nights and memories of the grave
Gentle my love and sweetness sometimes saved
Pick up these times and hide his crimes unknown
Only a fool can see his soul has grown
Nothing to show for love has never been
Nothing to show for love has never been
Nothing to show for love has never been

Nothing to show for love has never been
Nothing to show for love has never been
Nothing to show for love has never been

      Shadow Song
      Try Again
      Surely\
      Aries

I try to run in a different race
But every time I seem to lose faith
Making it is hard, but taking is easy
But I got to keep trying to lessen my pace
      Oh, dubidaidai, dubidaidaidada...

I try to walk down a city street
I say hello to the people I meet
They're walking their way, thinking I'm crazy
But I have so much trouble just keeping the beat

Well my way of life is simple
'Cause I just do what I please
      Whatever I was blessed with
It wasn't a life of peace
It's all right, yeah, here she comes

Oh, maybe I'm just a country boy
The city life will bring me no joy
Well it's bringing me down, it's making me lonely
You see I'm fooling with life and it ain't no toy

Well my way of life is simple
'Cause I just do what I please
      And whenever I got problems
      I just call upon Aries

      All right yeah
      Here she comes
      Here she comes

       Sister Moonshine

      Ooo-when I was a small boy,
Well, I could see the magic in a day,
But, now I'm just a poor boy,
Well, maybe it's the price you have to pay,
If you lock your dreams away
      If no-one wants to listen.

      What's the story,
      I wish I'd been a minstrel,
Just think of all the maidens I could call,
      Oh-I wish I'd been a gypsy,
Then maybe I could read the crystal ball,
      'Cause surrounded by these walls,
      Just makes me feel uneasy.

      I said hey, Sister Moonshine
Won't you send me a little sun
      I said hey, Sister moonshine
      Who's a stranger to everyone.

      So, -MAKE US ALL LAUGH-
      Make us all cry
      -MAKE US ALL GIVE-
      Make us all try
Give us a secret, show us the light,
Well, strike up the music, light up the sky.

      Mmm-If I was a lion,
Well, I could be the king off all the plains,
      Mmm-If is was an eagle,
Well, maybe I could fly above the rains,
      Oh, fly above the pain
But, I know I'm only foolin'

      I said hey, Sister Moonshine,
Won't you send me a little sun,
      I said hey, Sister Moonshine,
      Who's a stranger to everyone.

      So, -MAKE US ALL LAUGH-
      Make us all cry,
      -MAKE US ALL GIVE-
      Make us all cry,
      I said hey, Sister Moonshine
      I said hey, Sister Moonshine,
      I said hey, said hey
I said hey, I said hey Sister Moonshine.

For all those people who THINK they know Supertramp...
